Sara Porter
Hello my name is Sara Porter and I am a read-a-holic. :D
Actually I read just about anything and am practically making a career of it. I am a freelance writer for The West End Word a St. Louis based newspaper that focuses on local news and entertainment. For the past four years (2004-2008), I have written book reviews and have interviewed various authors. The books I have read have included mysteries, historic fiction, non-fiction, biographies, memoirs, and many books of local interest. I have interviewed authors such as Laurrell K. Hamilton, author of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series(my first big interview!), Mary Engelbreit, an award winning children's author and illustrator, John Lutz, mystery author of Chill of Night, and Derek McCulloch and Shepherd Hendrix, author and illustrator of the graphic novel, Stagger Lee.
In the past, I have also contributed articles to Sauce Magazine, a St. Louis based entertainment and food magazine, and Spirit Seeker, a New Age magazine. In all of these magazines I have highlighted the best and sometimes the worst of what I have read and have shared new talents for our readers.
Besides writing book reviews and interviewing authors, I have also learned about the written word in various ways. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and will soon be beginning my studies earning my Masters in Library and Information Science at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis. I also work in a small academic college library and am exposed to books of various topics, subjects, and genres. I am always on the look out for something new and interesting to read, good writing to share, or bad writing to pan.
My love of writing comes through my love of reading and I am always glad to share it.
